Hectic OL and IOC Activity in Copenhagen + W-sailing too!
Hectic OL and IOC Activity in Copenhagen + W-sailing too!
Last night at the IOC-opening Party in the Royal Opera House of Copenhagen I was impressed and pleased to see on TV that the President of IOC said that he was happy and pleased to have sailed in competition - at a distance(!) - with the *KIng of Dinghy Sailing* Paul Elvsrøm( 4 OL-gold-medals in dinghy-sailing).
Here by The Sound between Denmark and Sweden connecting the Kattegat and the Baltic Seas there are fairly often - especially this time of the year - sudden chances and gale force-plus windconditions, the NW-esterlies sweeping down from Greenland - Iceland
W-sailing 'observing' US-President Obama in the *'weather window*' with less wind - for a period - expected this morning. When leaving home fairly early(about 800 meters down to P-lot for W1348) I heard on the radio that President Obama's plane *AirFORCE 1* was delayed. He would arrive with 2 planes, type 747, so it is not to be known which one he is on.
At 9 min to 8, or 07.51 I saw *AirFORCE 1* land, and most certainly being watched by many, and definitely by a helicopter hovering right over the area, where I intended to be heading to fish for the cobber-bronze-skinned cod there. Well, I thought, better stay away, too close to the Ap., or that thing may blow me over! Also the bridge-traffic across to Sweden was stopped, and I saw 3 BIG guardboats and some smaller ones on patrol between the CPH-airport and the bridge to Sweden.
Since the helicopter did not go away, but came to have a look at me, I stayed/remained outside the Dragør harbour, took off my hat to wave it and show my very thin grey hair! The guy at the open side-door waved back with his hand not with his gun, luckily! And they flew back to station, being convinced W1348 was not a *Stinger-rocket* carrying sailing-dinghy ! And also I like president Obama, and continued fishing; did not see the second *AirFORCE 1* land though, being too busy, but at 08.17 the guards went away.
Some times later the whine-whistle in the rigging - my back to the wind while fishing - made me turn to discover some very black clouds coming rushing at me from the NW under escort of a beautiful 1/4 RAINBOW on the south side - very colorful against the black clouds.
This made me decide that two cod, each of 1,4 kg, was adequate, and started tacking, X by X, back for port since there for today - early this morning - and for the next three days were issued gale-force warnings for all sea-areas here in southern Scandinavia.
Later back home the radio confirmed the landing time - that I by coincidence noted while out there - 07.51, causing traffic-havoc in Copenhagen, BUT defenitely we do not want anything unpleasant to happen to this man.
So, now 'dig in' or hit your 'blow holes' the season for it is here! Ken, W1348"Maitken"
